Ford has been making in India, for India and the world, with its integrated manufacturing facilities in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Sanand, Gujarat. The company, since its entry in India in 1995, has invested more than US$ 2 billion and is committed to building a sustainable, profitable business in one of the world's fastest-growing auto markets.
Today, Ford India’s integrated manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai, produces its award-winning range of products including the Ford EcoSport and Ford Endeavour. The world-class manufacturing plant in Sanand manufactures Ford Figo, New Ford Aspire and Ford Freestyle.
Ford remains committed to India as a centre of excellence for small cars and low displacement engines for both the domestic market and exports. Following an accelerated export plan, Ford exports Figo, Aspire, and EcoSport to over 70 markets around the world. With Sanand being operational, Ford India has also doubled its annual installed manufacturing capacity to 610,000 engines and 440,000 vehicles.
Going further in its commitment to lay foundations for a Better World, Ford India announced the launch of its Happy School's' program in Chennai, in September 2014.
As part of the Happy Schools program, Ford is partnering with reputed NGOs working in the field of education to collectively conceptualize and design a social intervention model that addresses the identified gaps in the areas of academics, health, nutrition and infrastructure. A critical component of the intervention will be engagement with key stakeholders, including the management in schools, the teachers and parents, in order to create a sustained support system for the child.
The program will be implemented in schools close to Ford’s operations in Chennai, Sanand and Gurgaon.
Ford is also currently supporting a pilot project aimed at addressing the issue of dropout rate amongst girls in 2 schools in Chennai, as well as an infrastructure enhancement project in 2 schools near its upcoming manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Ford India launched the first phase of its cohesive community outreach initiative in Sanand, Gujarat to improve access to safe drinking water for children from neighboring communities.
In the first phase, 30 filters were installed in anganwadis and primary schools, across 18 villages, reaching out to more than 1000 children. The installation of the water filters was combined with strong community awareness initiatives, to ensure ownership at the local level and also make the initiative sustainable. The anganwadis-staff and parents of the children were also given information regarding issues related to child health, which ranges from a balanced diet for children, immunization and vaccination schedules, and the importance of health check-ups.
Ford has partnered with Ahmedabad-based NGO, Saath Charitable Trust, to implement the project, which aims to progressively expand and cover children across 70 villages.Ford will soon commence the scientific restoration of the Thirukachur lake, which is located close to its Chennai facility. As part of this, the lake will be de-silted and the water-holding capacity will be enhanced, which will be to the benefit of the local community. Last de-silted in 1976, the water from this lake benefits communities across 4 villages. De-silting the lake will help improve the quality of ground water, while improving the biodiversity of surrounding areas and help in increasing the survival of both flora and fauna in this region.
