The Foundation’s work in primary education focuses upon three thematic areas: school improvement, teacher empowerment and learning enrichment. The programmes are run in two modes — directly implemented by the Foundation and with partner social organisations.
Education Programmes:
ARISE: All Round Improvement in School Education Programme (ARISE) focus on strengthening the primary school education system in India, along with its partner organisations, by reviewing the infrastructure and course curriculum and developing the existing schools into models of excellence. The Foundation through its ARISE programmes was able to reach out to close to approximately 13,000 children in about 40+ government schools.
SHIKSHAANTAR: Shikshaantar is the Foundation’s training programme for teachers started with a vision to create happier classrooms. The Programme facilitates capacity building of school teachers and teacher educators in pedagogical skills and subject-related competencies in elementary. It enables child-centered learning towards the overall development of the students.
The Foundation runs two premier in-service teacher capacity building institutes called In-Service Teacher Education Institutes (ITEIs) with North Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Tech Mahindra Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Tech Mahindra. It was set up in 2007 as a Section 25 Company (referred to as Section 8 Company in the Companies Act, 2013), with a vision of Empowering through Education, and a mission encapsulated in the words below:
Educated, skilled and able women and men are a country’s true strength. We aspire to see children who are purposefully engaged, youth that is constructively employed and a society that provides equal opportunities to people with different abilities. Through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, the Mahindra Group commits itself to this . The key focus areas for Corporate Social Responsibility at Tech Mahindra Foundation are:
Empowerment of girls/women
• Empowerment of people with disabilities
• Corporate volunteering
These three areas are cross cutting themes for all our projects and programmes at Tech Mahindra Foundation. The Foundation works with the mandate that 50% of its beneficiaries are women and 10% are Persons with disabilities.
The SMART programme that started in 2012 with 3 centres trained 1,000 youth in the first year. The SMART programme is expanding and at present stands at its 100th centre providing skill development training to young men and women across 11 different cities in India. SMART has successfully trained approximately 75000+ young men and women till date, with an annual placement rate of over 75%. It has been able to successfully plug the demand and supply gap in multiple manufacturing and service industries.
Considering that Healthcare is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Indian economy and simultaneously there is a significant skills gap, we saw an opportunity and set up the first Tech Mahindra SMART Academy for Healthcare in New Delhi. The goal for setting up the Academy was twofold — create, build and nurture skilled paramedical and allied healthcare workforce for the healthcare sector along with uplifting country's youth and transforming them into world-class healthcare professionals. At present, the Foundation runs 3 Tech Mahindra SMART Academies in Healthcare and 1 Digital Media Academy as part of the SMART programme under employability. The academies are state-of-the-art centres imparting high-quality training, with a blend of classroom, practical's and on-the-job training. The academies closely engage with the industry for constant curriculum upgradation and placements. Know more:
Under the ARISE + programme children with disabilities from the under privileged communities are identified, educated and enrolled in mainstream school. Along with this the Foundation also supports regular training for caregivers, awareness and sensitisation programmes on disabilities, rehabilitation requirements such as speech therapy, physical therapy, orientation and mobility training and accessing their rights and entitlements.
The SMART+ programme focuses on providing employable market-related entrepreneurial skills, and opportunities to youth with disabilities.
